Common Timing Chain Problems with EA888 2.0 TSI:

1. Timing Chain Tensioner Failure

• The primary issue was the weak or faulty timing chain tensioner, which could fail to maintain chain tension.

• When this happened, the chain could skip teeth on the sprocket, causing the engine timing to go out of sync.

• In worst-case scenarios, this led to catastrophic engine damage, including bent valves or even a destroyed cylinder head.
